Located between San Francisco and San Jose in the heart of Silicon Valley, Stanford University is recognized as one of the world's leading research and teaching institutions.
Leland and Jane Stanford founded the University to "promote the public welfare by exercising an influence on behalf of humanity and civilization." Stanford opened its doors in 1891, and more than a century later, it remains dedicated to finding solutions to the great challenges of the day and to preparing our students for leadership in today's complex world.
In addition to one of the world’s leading universities, Stanford is a thriving residential campus and community. It sits on 8,000 acres of foothills and plains – once a horse farm belonging to Jane and Leland Stanford and still fondly known as "the Farm."

The Stanford campus includes 850 homes on campus, primarily on the south and west sides, with an eclectic mix of homes ranging from historic homes from the 1920’s on San Juan Hill, to mid-century modern styles from the 1950’s along Mayfield Avenue to more traditionally styled homes from the 1960’s and 1970’s in the newer part of campus off of Raimundo Way. These homes are only available for sale to eligible faculty and staff, and they tend to be larger and on larger plots of land than comparably priced homes in Palo Alto or Menlo Park.

The campus market is dependent on the limited number of homes for sale on campus and the number of eligible faculty looking at any given time. The number of homes for sale on campus tends to be limited, with only 5 – 10 single family homes per year being sold. While generally, homes on campus sell for less than those in the surrounding communities, there are exceptions.
